Title: GSpot codec information appliance
Authors: Greenberg, Steven
Keywords: video
file utility
codec identification
Issue Date: 13-Aug-2007
Abstract: GSpot is a codec (compression-decompression algorithm) identifier. It is a standalone executable file that analyzes an audio or video file for required codecs, determines whether the current system supports that codec, and tells you what (if anything) you will need to download in order to play the file. It does NOT provide the codecs, you will need to find them yourself online.
Description: This version of GSpot (2.70a) was downloaded from http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ on 4 August 2007. Some documentation is available from that website, including the Quick Start guide (http://www.headbands.com/gspot/v26x/quick_start.html) that is provided in a separate item in this tool collection. Further documentation of GSpot's use in a DSpace project is available in the project report for the 2007 iSchool tutorials archiving project. This application has been released under a license permitting web distribution, please read the license included here.
