|Title: ||Xena (XML Electronic Normalising of Archives) conversion tool|
|Authors: ||National Archives of Australia|
|Issue Date: ||7-Aug-2007|
|Abstract: ||Xena (XML Electronic Normalisation of Archives) was developed by the National Archives of Australia. It converts files into a standard XML schema developed by the National Archives. Aspects of this conversion are discussed here: http://www.naa.gov.au/recordkeeping/preservation/digital/xml_data_formats.html.
Xena currently supports the conversion of these formats: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project; OpenOffice.org Writer, Calc, and Impress; RTF; PST, TRIM, and MBOX email formats; CSV; JPG, GIF, TIFF, PNG, BMP, and PCX image formats; HTML; Plain text; PDF; and XML.|
|Description: ||This version of Xena (3.0 Lite) was downloaded from http://xena.sourceforge.net/download.html on 5 August 2007. Installation instructions can be found at the above site. Xena requires a Java Runtime Environment of 1.5.0 or better. The National Archives has released Xena under the GNU General Public License according to the SourceForge project page (http://sourceforge.net/projects/xena/) and the main National Archives digital preservation software page (http://www.naa.gov.au/recordkeeping/preservation/digital/applications.html), but a license was not found in the software itself. Therefore, a boilerplate GNU GPL has been provided here for reference and future redistribution.|
