Origin Systems, which released this compilation of the first three games in the Ultima Series, was a video game development company founded in 1983 by brothers Richard Garriott and Robert Garriott, their father Owen, and Chuck Bueche after Richard terminated his contract with Sierra On-Line to publish the third part of Richard's Ultima series, Ultima III: Exodus.

Based in Austin, Texas, the company is most famous for the Ultima, Wing Commander, and Crusader game series.

In 1992, the company was acquired by Electronic Arts. In 1997, it produced one of the first and most successful massively multiplayer online role-playing games, Ultima Online. However, in 2004, Electronic Arts disbanded Origin.

Ultima I-VI Series is a compilation of the first six Ultima games, which was published for DOS by Origin in 1993. Included with the game is supporting documentation such as paper maps for Ultima I, Ultima II, and Ultima III games; the Ultima Trilogy Manual; and the Age of Virtue Compendium. In addition, a fan-made patch is included to fix an error on Origin-produced CD-ROM in the Ultima II galactic maps.
