Origin Systems, which released this compilation of the first three games in the Ultima Series, was a video game development company founded in 1983 by brothers Richard Garriott and Robert Garriott, their father Owen, and Chuck Bueche after Richard terminated his contract with Sierra On-Line to publish the third part of Richard's Ultima series, Ultima III: Exodus.

Based in Austin, Texas, the company is most famous for the Ultima, Wing Commander, and Crusader game series.

In 1992, the company was acquired by Electronic Arts. In 1997, it produced one of the first and most successful massively multiplayer online role-playing games, Ultima Online. However, in 2004, Electronic Arts disbanded Origin.

This collection contains the complete software disk images from the 1989 Ultima Trilogy release, as well as supporting documentation such as the Ultima Trilogy manual and three maps, one for each game. In this release, Ultima II was altered to remove all references to Sierra; Origin regained the rights to Ultima II. Ultima Trilogy was available for the C64, Apple II and IBM-PC. These materials are appropriate for Apple II functionality.
