Installation requirements

DROID has the following installation requirements:

  • Java Runtime Environment, version 1.4.2 or later
  • Minimum 512 MB RAM recommended
  • Internet connection (for web update of signature files)

DROID is fully platform-independent, and should run on any platform supporting the Java Runtime Environment (version 1.4.2 or later). Use of the Sun JRE is recommended, which is freely available to download here. DROID has been fully tested on the following platforms:

  • Windows 2000 SP 3
  • Windows XP Professional SP 2
  • Macintosh OS X

It has also been informally tested on the following Linux distributions:

  • Red Hat (Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3)
  • Debian (Debian Sarge)
  • SUSE (SUSE 9.3)
  • Fedora (Core 5)

Downloading and installing DROID

DROID is available to download as a Windows installer (Windows 2000 or XP), a Mac installer and a ZIP file (Linux/Unix).

Windows installer

  1. Download the “droid-1.1.exe” installer file here, and save to a temporary folder.
  2. Run the installer by double-clicking the file “droid-1.1.exe”.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions in the DROID Setup Wizard to complete the installation process.

Mac installer

  1. Download the "droid-1.1-mac.zip" file here and save to the location where you wish to install DROID.
  2. Run the installer by double-clicking the file “droid-1.1-mac.zip”.
  3. The installer will create a new folder containing the DROID installation.
  4. Start DROID by running the file "droid.jar" from this location.

ZIP file

  1. Download the "droid-1.1.zip" file here and save to a temporary location.
  2. Extract the contents of “droid-1.1.zip” to the location where you wish to install DROID.
  3. Start DROID by running the file "droid.jar" from this location.

Signature files

New signature files can be downloaded using the DROID signature file update web service. However, the current signature file can also be downloaded directly from here:
